Indore-Ujjain Greenfield Highway: Detailed Description The Indore-Ujjain Greenfield Highway is a major infrastructure project in Madhya Pradesh, designed to provide a new, high-speed, access-controlled connection between Indore (the commercial hub) and Ujjain (a key religious and cultural center, home to the Mahakaleshwar Temple). Key Project Details Length: 48.10 km Configuration: 4-lane access-controlled highway with paved shoulders Route Alignment: Starts near Pitra Parvat (Hatod area) in Indore and ends near the Simhastha Bypass in Ujjain. It is a completely greenfield alignment (built on new land, bypassing existing roads) for faster and congestion-free travel. Cost: ₹1,089 crore (bid project cost) Execution Mode: Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) Contractor: Ceigall Infra Projects Private Ltd (wholly-owned subsidiary of Ceigall India Ltd) – Awarded Letter of Award (LoA) on December 29, 2025 Construction Timeline: 24 months from the appointed date (expected to commence soon after LoA) Executing Agency: Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation Ltd (MPRDC) Objectives and Benefits Reduced Travel Time: Expected to cut the journey between Indore and Ujjain to 30-35 minutes (from over an hour on the existing route). Decongestion: Serves as an alternative to the current Indore-Ujjain road, easing traffic on the older corridor. Boost to Tourism and Economy: Enhances access to Ujjain's religious sites, supports trade, and connects to industrial areas like Pithampur. Preparation for Simhastha 2028: Critical for handling the expected influx of 10+ crore pilgrims during the Simhastha Mela (Kumbh Fair) in Ujjain in 2028. Indore Airport will be the primary gateway, making this highway vital for smooth connectivity. Distinction from Other Projects Note that this greenfield highway is separate from the ongoing widening of the existing Indore-Ujjain road to 6 lanes (a different ~45-46 km project costing around ₹624-1,692 crore, already under construction in phases). Current Status (as of December 30, 2025) The project was awarded just yesterday (December 29, 2025). Construction is yet to begin, but mobilization is expected soon. Made by :- Sarvesh
