So I went out to the Plishner Radio Telescope site to help with installation of a 6m yagi over the weekend and came back with some fresh ideas for the MFJ 220MHz yagi. I'd also like to thank and recognize the guidance of Barry W0MOG, Greg K0MGL, Jeff N0XCR, Bryan KE0CO, and especially Joseph in Canada VE3GKT which offered the final pieces that made it all work. In this final adjustment I took off one of the goal posts on the PVC pipe and mounted the yagi perpendicular to the PVC mast. I also shorted the pigtail feed lines from 5 or 6 inches down to about an inch and a half to fit. I moved the choke coil to just below the feed point and then taped and secured the coax to the boom and then along the PVC cross-member and then down the tripod and voila SWR of 1.0 to 1 across the entire band. The antenna is operating excellent now and I'm hitting repeaters around 55 miles away no problem.
