RAF Brize Norton & Fairford | Ft. AN-225 & U-2

Had an amazing day yesterday! A couple of firsts for me including the Antonov AN-225 and the Lockheed U-2. The day started at RAF Brize Norton where a USAF CV-22B Osprey popped down from RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk for a couple of fly throughs before heading down to the South West. We then took a gamble and went to the 07 end of Brize’s runway for the 225 landing after studying its arrival history at Brize and noticing it likes to land on 07 so it doesn’t struggle turning around! The gamble payed off in the end and we were treated to a wonderful low approach overhead by the world’s longest and heaviest operational aircraft! Whilst we were waiting for its arrival we also had the takeoff of Voyager ZZ336 in its lovely union flag scheme. After the 225 landed, we took another gamble and headed down the road to RAF Fairford to see a U-2 return home after a long routine mission. Finally, we headed back to RAF Brize Norton to catch the departure of the AN-225 which was then joined by a Chinook and a C-130 Hercules.
