Ancient Wooden Thai Market (Hua Takhe Market)

Hua Takhe Market is the ancient wood market by Privet Burirom Canal. Feature "Hua Takhe Market” is another market developed to revive again after long slump. There are rotating art exhibitions, workshop for those who are interested in arts, A-Frame shop, and art supply shops where art students frequebly visit for a long time, Hua Takhe learning center telling the story of the market, coffee shops and guesthouses, community conservation homestay, etc. These attract visitors who seek the tourist attractions of the community and there are people visiting these place all the time. History "Hua Takhe Market" was originally a single storey wooden row house built along a canal at the four corners of Hua Takhe Intersection. There are over a hundred shops. In front of the row house, it is a wooden patio covered with a wide walkway to the canal. It can be used for docking boats, trading, and shipping. Most of the markets in the north side of Pravet Canal market are the possession of Chao Phraya Surawongwaiwat, director of the Pravet Canal. Then, such area became the possession of the Liam Bunnak, the 24th daughter. The south side of Prawet Canal is in the possession of a private sector, but its ownership changed many times. Currently, it is in the possession of Mr. Somboon Wongurai, a son of Yin Saechang, a Chinese man who was an owner of the waterfront market until the land markets which were later created. When Ladkrabang (Sukhumvit 77) was built, the waterfront shops in the south side split into two sections. In the middle of the row house, bridges were built on the both sides of the canal. The left-side shops mostly sell fresh food such as vegetables and meat. On the right side along Hua Takhe Canal, there were consumer goods shops, as well as agriculture and clothing shops, providing the nice and lively atmosphere. In the past, it was the major market community where people from neighborhoods to sell and buy goods. It was quite crowded, especially Buddhist holy days. Nowadays, it became a big waterfront market along Pravet Burirom Canal that has flourished in the past.
