Make-A-Wish Ireland Delivers Unforgettable Golf Experience for Young Fan with Shane Lowry

Make-A-Wish Ireland and DP World Tour Deliver Unforgettable Moments at the 2024 Amgen Irish Open Cian Norris, a 10-year-old from Dublin, has faced numerous health challenges, including a heart transplant, organ failure and post-transplant lymphoma. Cian was diagnosed with Restrictive Cardiopathy in 2017, which is extremely rare, and Cian was given less than two years to live. His dad wouldn’t accept this terminal diagnosis and through luck and determination, Cian who was already on the transplant list, got his second chance with a rushed trip, facilitated by the Irish Air Corps, to London’s Great Ormond Street in 2020, where he had the lifesaving operation. After the transplant, Cian remained immuno-supressed. He had a second open heart operation a month after his transplant for the insertion of a pacemaker. Cian then developed post-transplant lymphoma, a type of cancer. Following chemotherapy, Cian’s will to live a full life is finally paying off with his health improving in recent months. With more energy, Cian has followed in his father’s footsteps and took up golf in 2023. Since then, his one wish was to be well enough to play golf with his hero, Shane Lowry. Cian’s wish was fulfilled at the Amgen Irish Open. Cian and his father, Gavin, were treated to a behind-the-scenes tour, followed by a special introduction to Amgen golf ambassador, Shane Lowry in the Clubhouse. Shane, who is a dad himself, took Cian to the practice area for a one-on-one clinic, offering invaluable tips, lots of laughs and an unforgettable golfing experience. Cian, who still suffers from extreme exhaustion, kept his energy up which allowed him the opportunity to attend the Pro-Am prize presentation. "Today was incredibly special", Shane Lowry reflected, "Being able to share this experience with Cian and see the joy he took in being out on the course was fantastic. It’s a privilege to be part of granting a wish and supporting the work that Make-A-Wish Ireland does. The strength and courage these kids show is truly inspiring, and I’m honoured to play a small role in their story." Gavin, Cian’s dad, said “The day was amazing. There were so many surprises and to witness the look on Cian’s face for each of them was brilliant. Seeing Cian meet his idol, Shane Lowry and watching them together on the putting green was an incredible experience. Shane was so giving of his time and even presented Cian with an Odessey putter as a memento of the day.
