I was trying to give unique names to old 775 motherboards and accidentally broke my backup ASUS P5E3 Premium motherboard. As the motherboard has only single BIOS chip and it is a soldered one, and no BIOS flashback utility the ways to get it working again are quite limited. The motherboard does have some built-in recovery thingy but I couldn't get it to work. So the easiest way to fix a motherboard like that is to obtain an external BIOS flashing tool. Popular ones that I know of are the CH341A that is easily available from China like from eBay for example, or Elmor EVC2. I got the CH341A earlier so used that one in this case. The external tool connects to the target BIOS chip with SOIC8 test clips that are quite hard to attach correctly. You need a separate computer to flash the target BIOS chip with. I recommend using a laptop and the NeoProgrammer tool I discovered at the end of this project. The flashing procedure might take a while so don't get confused if it is slow.
