Peter records that after being sent out to preach repentance, the apostles returned to Jesus and reported all that they had done and taught. What follows is not immediately another miracle—but a call to rest. In Mark 6:30–44, Jesus invites His weary disciples to withdraw to a desolate place. Yet the crowds arrive first. Instead of sending them away, Jesus has compassion on them because they are like sheep without a shepherd.
