NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — Hundreds of protesters gathered on Rivers Avenue in North Charleston to voice their opposition to recent United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids in the Lowcountry. The demonstration is part of a series of protests organized by the 50501 group, which has been increasing its activities in response to federal immigration actions. Anne Ostapie, a 50501 organizer, expressed her distress over the situation. "It keeps me up at night. I can't sleep through this. This is wrong. There are children being accosted and put on buses," she said. The protests were fueled by a video showing Franklin Arce being detained by federal immigration officers in his front yard.
