Cellulose that does not require any wood at all? This idea has stuck with Patrycja Kucharczyk and Adam Korczak. Today they run the start-up Treeless Pack, which produces cellulose from microorganisms. The food of the bacteria are nutrients from organic waste. This approach not only protects forests, it can also be scaled up and automated. For example, the cellulose can be produced in a vertical farm with bioreactors. The production of cellulose from wood is very polluting and energy-intensive. The two young entrepreneurs took their first steps in the Student Project House (SPH) at ETH Zurich. They were able to benefit above all from coaching and access to a broad network of like-minded people, industry partners and more advanced start-ups. This is how the idea turned into a product: Treeless Pack's cellulose can be used to produce paper, packaging material and even composites for the construction industry in a resource-saving way. - - ETH Social Media Links: Facebook: / eth Instagram: / ethzurich Twitter: / eth_en LinkedIn: / eth-zurich https://www.ethz.ch
