Covid-induced strict restrictions have come into effect in Kerala from Tuesday as part of the government measures to contain the alarming surge in COVID cases. Only essential services will be allowed in the state. The restrictions will go on till May 9. The government in its order has directed that offices in the state should function with only 25 percent attendance from Tuesday onwards. The authorities of the National Disaster Management in its circular stated that other employees can be given work from home while only 25 percent can attend office. Sectoral magistrates will carry out inspection in these offices to confirm if excess staff are on duty. These stringent restrictions will not be applicable to essential services. Essential services such as basic infrastructure, petronet, Petroleum , LPG units, laboratories, pharmacies, food and civil supplies, government press, Consumerfed, Milma, Matsyafed, Telecom, postal services, IT sector, Internet services, courier service, food and medicine distribution centres will be exempted from this restriction. The firms, industrial units and organisations which function for essential services will be allowed to function for 24 hours. Employees in these offices will be allowed to travel with a valid ID card issued from the company. The government has also given instructions to ensure the transportation of medical oxygen though oxygen technicians; however, the health-sanitization workers must possess ID proof issued from the office while travelling. Grocery shops, fruit shops, shops selling milk-dairy products, meat and fish selling centres, toddy shops are also exempted from the restrictions. Other instructions are as follows • Vehicle service centres and repair workshops can function • Encourage home delivery of essential commodities rather than go out and shop. Follow Covid protocol. • All staff at work place should to wear double masks • Shops should be closed before 9 pm • Only take-aways will be permitted from registered food outlets. These outlets can function only till 9pm • Banks can function from 10 am to 1 pm. People should use Internet banking as far as possible • All long-distance trains and buses will operate services. But travelers should follow Covid protocol. Travellers should carry documents to show the purpose of travel. • Maximum 50 persons will be allowed for weddings and maximum 20 persons for funerals • Ration shops can function • Migrant workers can work, abiding by Covid protocol • Maximum 50 people can visit worship centres. But the number of people should vary according to the size of the worship centres. • Shooting of films and serials must be withheld.
