While Disney may own both Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar, the studios still have their own agendas. But ever since the Disney studio switched to CGI and is moving away from good-vs-evil plotlines, it’s getting harder and harder to tell the two studios apart. But one thing we can’t help but notice is the similarities in characters’ plots and designs in their movies. Disney’s copying Pixar, Pixar’s copying Disney and on occasion, they’re copying themselves. Turning Red and Luca both have stories about transformation and a ton of characters and plot elements overlap. Lightyear’s robot cat named Socks is literally just kitten Baymax. Encanto is either parodying Tangled or paying homage to it, we’re sure of which but it’s definitely one of those. Luca is a modern-day retelling of The Little Mermaid: Swap genders; cut romance plots; include school. We happen to think Raya took inspiration from The Incredibles franchise. Number two came out while Raya would have still been mid-development so it isn’t a stretch to think they might’ve been inspired. Big Hero 6 also borrows from The Incredibles, although that’s probably more likely than our Raya theory. Wreck-It-Ralph has ties to Monster’s Inc and its sequel to Toy Story. Finding Nemo has one scene in particular that reminds us of The Little Mermaid. How could Wall-E possibly have taken inspiration from Lilo and Stitch? Outerspace isn’t the only thing they’ve got in common. And Brother Bear ripped off Tarzan but did so poorly. Phil Collins is our proof… we don’t have more than that. We don’t firmly believe that no story is original but it seems like these movies can get a little too similar given their target audience, their mission as individual companies and Disney running the whole shebang.
