In the second round of the Schweickart Prize student webinars, Program Chairs Rusty B. and Randy Schweickart, alongside Project Manager Delphine Veronese-Milin, shared an overview of the application process and offered guidance for students interested in applying for the 2026 Schweickart Prize. They were joined by 2024 Schweickart Prize winner Dr. Joe DeMartini, who shared his experiences with the prize and offered practical tips for developing a strong, compelling proposal. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, during which students from around the world had their questions answered. _________________________________________ Founded in 2023, the Schweickart Prize was established with the goal of enhancing our capability to protect life on Earth from the potentially devastating consequences of an asteroid impact — planetary defense. The prize recognizes graduate students for their innovative ideas and potential leadership in the advancement of planetary defense-related fields including asteroid impact prediction, impact mitigation, mitigation law and policy development, impact economics, and planetary defense public education and communication.
