It was a quiet, drizzly rainy morning walk along the Susquehanna, between the winter storms. The river is slowly moving slush and tree debris downstream, overreaching the banks and claiming the trees at the edge of the tracks as its own. The squirrels and birds, however, were chattering away as if it were spring. About halfway, a sheet of ice covers the trail and forces me to turn back. Light rain begins drizzling down on the return trip, filling in puddles that reflect the canopy of the trees.
