Christmas Steam in London with 34028 'Eddystone' and Black 5 44871 | 29th & 30th November 2025

With a weekend trip down to London, a quick peer at what was running in London that would give me a bit of interest and to go out and see. Saturday 29th saw Light Pacific 34028 'Eddystone' haul the 'Bath & Christmas Christmas Express' from London Paddington to Bath and Bristol but mainly for Baths Christmas Market. This would be 34028's first time out of Paddington sinces its return to mainline a few months ago. Eager to see 34028 on the mainline I headed out to Acton Main Line to see its return from Bristol & Bath. A quick dash to catch it at London Paddington under the beautiful canopy and then see it leave for Southall. The following night, Sunday 30th, saw a trip out to Kilburn on a sidestreet next to the WCML to see LMS Black 5 44871 haul the final inbound Polar Express trip into London Euston. Unfortunately with the Watford DC lines planned closure meant that finding a location in the dark wasn't easy, so its was a dark spot with only the colourful interior lights on show and the beautiful beat of the Black 5. Later I caught up to it at Hanwell just nearby to Southall depot where it was heading for the night. Class 47 47848 seen dragging the set and the Black 5 on the fasts lines past Hanwell.
