226 - Soft 'Clay' Ear Wax Removed with Jobson Horne & Endoscopic Microsuction (Mr N Raithatha - THC)

The client presented with soft 'clay' type ear wax. The difficulty with this type of ear wax is that (i) it tends to block the suction probe when performing microsuction, and (ii) the ear wax doesn't come and hold in one big piece. I initially used a jobson horne to remove the outer layer of soft ear wax before turning to endoscopic microsuction. This was because the ear wax was too deep to safely use the jobson horne to get in behind the ear wax. After a while, I realised that the soft ear wax was having difficulty moving up the suction probe and so I instiled the ear with olive oil ear wax drops to change the consistency of the ear wax slightly to make it easier to suction. Eventually I managed to remove the obstructing ear wax to reveal a healthy eardrum.
