originally recorded on 10-3-25 Signal on the left: 3 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with Leotek EV Series LEDs and a very sick General Signals Type 1 electronic bell that dies while the crossing is active. Signal on the right: 1 pair of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with Leotek EV Series LEDs and 1 pair of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with Dialight Ball LEDs. After catching I026, @vtgrxrman and I hopped back up to this crossing just south of Earlington, KY, to try and catch at least one more train on this day. At around sunset, after a while of waiting, we were able to catch our fourth, and best, train of the day: a northbound CSX mixed freight with a pair of YN2 AC44CWs sandwiching a YN3c CM44AC for power! Definitely nice getting another YN2 locomotive leading again. This crossing is a pretty nice one, featuring another old L&N install at it. The signals here were installed many years ago by the L&N, it appears, though, in the 1970s, at least the lights on the closer signal were replaced with what appear to have been some MI 12x20s. Then, in the late-90s, CSX replaced the far signal entirely with the current one. Finally, sometime between 2014 and 2019, CSX upgraded the crossing to LED, replacing the lights on the closer signal at about the same time with the current reused Safetran 12x24 inch heads. I'm guessing the Dialight Ball LEDs on the rear of the closer signal came from wherever the heads were reused from. At about the same time, it appears that the closer signal also had its base replaced with the current one. Either way, thankfully, since then, nothing else here has changed to this crossing. Definitely nice to get another old L&N signal recorded, even if CSX has pretty well modernized. Also nice to get another GS Type 1 e-bell filmed, even if this one is definitely pretty much dead at this point. Unfortunately, shortly after starting, the bell's tone quickly died-out, only making what sounded like a "clunk" sound when trying to ring. After the train passed, it sounded like it wasn't even working at all anymore. I wouldn't be too surprised if CSX replaces it soon, if they haven't already, though hopefully the rest of this crossing is left alone for many more years to come. Either way, I'm glad I was able to film this crossing when I did as well. https://www.rxrsignals.com/Kentucky/A... If you like my videos, feel free to leave me a tip on Ko-Fi!
