It is a grotto temple that was continuously excavated on the Silk Road along the banks of the Yellow River from the 4th to the 10th centuries and retains the earliest chronological inscriptions. The Bingling Temple Grottoes were located near the main point of traffic between east, west, north and south at that time, so its Buddhist art was influenced by multiple contemporary western, southern and central plains. As the earliest extant Buddhist cave temple in the intersection of the Hexi Corridor and the Central Plains at the beginning of the Silk Road, the Bingling Temple Grottoes are special evidence of the appearance of the caves in early China when Buddhism was first introduced to the Han Dynasty.
