On occassion of Rita Reys' 50th birthday and her 35 years on stage jubilee, Hans van Willigenburg hosted a special TV programme in September 1975 celebrating the life and career of Europe's First Lady of Jazz, with whom he had been friends for many years. The show (of course) starts with her first hit song My Funny Valentine and highlights other hits, like Can't Buy Me Love, Desafinado and Zon in Scheveningen, as well as personal favorites like Mr. Wonderful. In between Van Willigenburg talks with Rita about her past 35 years in music, in which she became widely known as Europe's First Lady of Jazz. The programme ends with songs from her (then) latest album Rita Reys Sings George Gershwin, which was the third in a series of award winning songbook projects (the first two being Rita Reys Sings Burt Bacharach and Rita Reys Sings Michel Legrand). Rita is being accompanied by the Pim Jacobs Trio, the Kilima Hawaiians, a.o. On the Gerhswin part the orchestra is conducted by the great Rogier van Otterloo, who also wrote the arrangements.
