This video shows how to create colorful, intricate patterns and blooms using a straw. See the *creative process* come to life with this *satisfying video* and explore different mediums to use for surprising result. Before we get our hands dirty, let’s quickly talk about why this works and what makes it so special. A standard bloom has three main parts: the pillow, the puddle of color, and the cell activator. The pillow's job is to be a thick, wet base that lets the colors on top glide and expand when you spin or tilt the canvas. A transparent pillow, though, is made from a clear base. Think of it like a pane of glass. When you pour your colors on it, you’re not just looking at the top surface anymore—you’re seeing through the layers. Light can pass all the way through, hit the canvas underneath, and bounce back, lighting up your colors from behind. This gives you a luminous, almost stained-glass effect. You’ll suddenly see wisps of color that would have been totally hidden, and the way your paints mix becomes a visible, three-dimensional dance. The final piece has a depth that feels like you could almost fall into it. That's the magic we're making today. Getting the recipes right is everything with this technique. Consistency is always king in fluid art, and it's especially true here. We need three different things, each with its own specific thickness. First, the star of the show: our Transparent Pillow. This needs to be your thickest layer. You're looking for a consistency that mounds on itself when you drizzle it—it should leave a little trail for a second before melting back in. It’ll look kind of milky or cloudy in the cup, but don't worry, it dries perfectly clear. That's the secret! For this painting, I'm using a 12" Round Canvas that I've painted metallic bronze. A metallic background really makes the colors feel like they're floating in space. Next up, our Pouring Medium for the colors. This is what we'll mix our paints into, and it needs to be thinner than the pillow so everything can move around. My go-to is the @SheleeArt Medium, you can find the Recipe in her Ecourse. It creates a lovely, fluid consistency that doesn’t mess with the paint itself. Finally, the Cell Activator. This is the thinnest mix and it's what creates those amazing cells and lacing. I use one part Australian Floetrol to one part metallic acrylic paint and about two parts Australian Floetrol to one part acrylic paint, opaque and adusting quantities to suit paint consistency. I’ll be using Amsterdam Black today. So, there you have it. The transparent pillow isn't just a cool trick; it's a genuine game-changer. I really hope you give it a try.
