Aikido forms- are weapon forms!

In this video I talk about how Aikido forms are best seen through the lens of weapons. Many parts of Aikido forms, like why there is such an emphasis on wrist grabbing, why arm control is held as more important than body control, why we don't have clinch work, ground work, or why we have such "bad" striking methods... most of this can be quickly understood by practicing the forms with a weapon. The Aikido techniques that are most known to the public come from traditional Jiu Jitsu- and traditional Jiu Jitsu is focused on close quarters armed conflict.
