Sparknews is launching the first-ever platform for media content covering solutions, initiatives, and the stories of social entrepreneurs in order to inspire and spark action. www.sparknews.com Sparknews is a social start-up (social business), created in 2012 by Christian de Boisredon in order to promote and develop what Sparknews calls "ImpAct Journalism": the media alerts the public to injustice and tragedies and at the same time covers existing solutions to these problems, thereby providing the public with the means to act. Sparknews draws together a community of journalists, social entrepreneurs, decision makers and individuals who share the desire to shed light on positive initiatives that offer concrete solutions to the world's problems. The site will feature reports, articles and wikis submitted by the mass media and institutions, as well as the public at large, which cover solutions in a broad range of 23 domains, from childhood to the environment, from employment to health, energy, water and education. The official launch of Sparknews.com took place at the News World Summit, on the 31st of May, in the presence of 400 editors-in-chief from around the world (CNN, BBC, New York Times, El Pais, The Guardian, Reuters, AFP, AP, India Today, Le Monde, RTBF, France-Télévision, Die Zeit, Courrier-International, Clarin, Russia Today, Challenges, Les Echos, France 24...). Bertrand Pecquerie, CEO of the Global Editors Network (a network of 600 international editors-in-chief) and of the News World Summit, states, "It seemed only natural to associate Sparknews with the News World Summit as they bring together the concerns of the audience and our editors-in-chief. The coverage of solutions is part of the news and Sparknews can contribute to improving the quality of this coverage, to the benefit of both the media and the public. If we take for example the case of Greece, I was shocked not to see a single story about the Greeks who are bringing about solutions. This shows that the media sometimes still doesn't think to cover the solutions to problems. Sparknews can help make this type of subject more prominent."
