On Java Edition, you can add anything to your off hand. Just select it in your hotbar, and press the “F” key on your keyboard. This will move the item into your off hand instantly. If you have a torch, you will be able to place it with right-click, and the same can be done with building blocks. What about on Minecraft Bedrock Edition though? Well, sadly, you are limited to what can be moved into the shield slot. Things like shields, totems of undying, and maps are all that can be moved to this slot.
