#philippinestravel #mtpinatubo #offroad #nativepeople #pampanga On the last day of the trip, we planned an excursion to the Sacobia River where we would have a picnic breakfast. It was dry in early April so the river was shallow enough for vehicular traffic to pass. The headwaters of the Sacobia River are heated by underground volcanic activity, estimated 85 - 90 degrees F. Think Mt. Pinatubo. The picnic table was set up in the middle of the river so your feet were in warm water while seated. The Aeta locals had also blocked off part of the river with a small dam, effectively creating a volcanically heated swimming pool. Sand and gravel, from the 1991 pyroclastic eruption of Mt. Pinatubo have been hauled out of the Sacobia Riverbed and other nearby locations for more that 30 years. I believe it is used in concrete and cement mixes as well as ordinary backfill. The Aeta people are true natives of the Philippines. In Pampanga, most live on the slopes of Mt. Pinatubo and the surrounding mountains. Our Aeta guide met us as we were about to get started. We hired him for his detailed knowledge of the current conditions and and hazards that may be present on the unimproved road. Video equipment: Apple iPhone 14 Plus 6 April 2024
