Truck trailers, filled with tomatoes, are rolling on highways throughout California’s Central Valley as growers are in the thick of tomato harvest season. Picked at peak ripeness, the tomatoes grown at Rominger Brothers Farms in Yolo County are sent the same day to be processed and packed at local canneries. “These are varieties that are especially made to go to a cannery and be made into sauces, to salsas to soups, paste, all these kind of products that you eat coming out of a can or a jar or something like that,” said farm owner Bruce Rominger. The fruits of labor from this year's tomato harvest across California's Central Valley will soon be consumed by people across the country and around the world. KCRA 3's Melanie Wingo reports.
