Here at long last is my 1930s inspired cake mascara recipe! This video goes into a fair bit of detail about how cake mascara formulas work, but if you want to skip around a bit to the parts that interest you, here are the time stamps: 0:00 Introduction 2:15 History of Mascara Formulations 12:28 Developing My Formula 16:40 My Recipe 19:50 Applying Cake Mascara 20:40 Final Thoughts 22:16 Outtakes Recipe Notes: It's good practice to sterilize all your equipment before starting, as this product is going very close to the eyes and we want to minimize the chance of any eye irritation/infection. If you want a brown mascara, substitute a brown iron oxide for the black (or mix the two together for a dark brown shade). I used BTMS - 50 for my recipe. I use it in my homemade hair conditioner so already had it on hand, but Polawax or Emulsifying Wax NF may also work as alternatives. These three are known to be less irritating to the eyes than other emulsifying waxes. Always allow cake mascara to fully dry out before putting the lid back on the container to help prolong it's shelf-life and discourage the growth of bacteria.
