As mentioned last week, I've got a number of videos on deck! Next up is from another session job (well, 'video-session'): "ETERNITY"! & if you follow me primarily for my covers (as opposed to session-work-video's like these last couple), fret not: The next play-through's on deck are both covers (pretty rad one's, too. If I do say so myself! 😉). That said, I think you'll all still enjoy this one. It's a really cool song (some fairly tough stuff in here, too!). A bit of background on the artist: Typically, when I post videos, I put the artist's name in the title, alongside the specific song name by said artist. For this video however, I chose to only include the song name. The reason for that is... well, when I was first contacted by the artist, I was a bit unsure of whether or not I was comfortable doing it... because of the name. The artist (or, band name) is "GOD". Yes - you read that correctly. Now, if you follow me online, or have ever heard my podcast, or just listened to me talk in general... I'm like, really, really NOT religious. & a band with the literal name "GOD" was a bit on-the-nose (to me). At least, that was my initial reaction. But the artist (who'd rather remain nameless - it's an anonymous project for him & he has never released his information), was willing to pay my full video rate, & seemed like a nice enough person. So I figured I should at least listen to the music & consider it. So I did, & after listening to the song that he requested I do (this song), I was already a BIT more open to it - it's a sick song! In general, he writes pretty awesome (& fairly unique) material. So then I just had to decide if I was personally comfortable doing session work for a band with such a seemingly religious name. I was very upfront with him about all of this (respectfully), & I just told him honestly (paraphrasing here): "Look, I'm not religious at all, & I don't really want to affiliate with anything overtly religious. I respect everyone's beliefs, but personally it doesn't feel right to me. So if I am to do it, I would prefer keep the band name out of the title". He was incredibly kind & understanding of this. In the end, this is actually what won me over (so to speak). He wasn't pushy about his religion, & really didn't care about any of the details. He was just genuinely interested in seeing a drummer perform some of his programmed drum parts. (Side note: That's all this session was - just the video! He just wanted to see a drummer play it, & he wanted me to stick primarily to his original drum parts. I expanded on them a bit here & there, but for the most part they're all his original drum compositions/programming) Anyway: So I agreed to work on the song, & here we are! Since then, I've spoken to him quite a bit, & let me just say this: While I personally feel that the band name is a bit intense, as a person, this artist is a lovely individual. & because he was so not-pushy about his beliefs, I felt comfortable asking some additional questions, & honestly ya'll - his approach to religion is like, what I WISH most religious people were like (Haha). It's just for him, & he doesn't care if you believe in something else. It's a very respectful approach, & I admire that. We've had some fascinating conversations (via audio message) about religion as well, & in general he just seems like a very grounded person. One who has his own beliefs, for personal reasons, & respects everyone else's too. That said, I certainly remain where I've always been: Somewhere between Agnostic & Atheist depending on the day. LOL. But I'm glad things worked out with this artist, & that he turned out to be such a rad person. On top of ALL of that, he writes some sick music... so most importantly, I hope you enjoy this video! & if you do, follow the links below to listen to more of his music!
