If your Grundfos water pump stops working and only makes a humming sound, the issue might be a dirty pump or a faulty capacitor. Before replacing the capacitor, check if the pump malfunctions at all speed settings. Instead of disassembling the speed switch board, which is complicated, it's easier to cut the wires and solder a new capacitor. Ensure the replacement has the same capacity and an operating voltage not lower than the original. Also, check the size to ensure it fits. Capacitors are cheap, and you don’t need sophisticated tools—just a little bit of knowledge. To access the capacitor, turn off the fuses and remove the black cover by unscrewing one screw.
