Sati Joymati Konwari is one of the most iconic personalities in the history of Assam, or Ahom history. Soti Joymoti Konwari/Sati Joymati Konwari was the wife of Godapani or Supatphaa. She endured brutal torture but did not compromise on her duty and sacrificed her life for the people of Ahom kingdom. It was 1672 when after the Battle of Saraighat, Lachit Borphukan died and his brother Laluksola became Borphukan (Laluksola Borphukan) in the Ahom kingdom, when the disturbance began. He made Sulikphaa(Lora Raja) the king and became the Prime Minister himself. His atrocious rule began and the target was Godapani - the most suitable candidate to rule the Ahom kingdom. When Godapani’s wife Sati Joymati Konwari/ Soti Joymoti Konwari was interrogated, she refused to tell anything about Godapani and brutal torture was inflicted on her. She endured everything and became the symbol of Assam’s pride and courage. Today’s video is about sati Joymati story which is still celebrated in Assam.
