The Conejos River Drainage is fly fishing paradise. I am convinced that I have died and gone to fishing heaven. This was one of the best days of fishing I've ever had. Days like are so few and far between that when they do actually happen, it doesn't seem real. So I feel so incredibly lucky that I was able to trap this memory in a bottle, to remember for a lifetime. The Conejos River Drainage is a massive watershed full of some incredible fly fishing opportunities for every caliber of angler. You can really choose your own adventure. If backcountry lakes and streams are the goal, there is no end. Not so adventurous? Roads parallel almost every inch of the stem of this river. The Conejos runs for about 100 miles, but there are hundreds of more miles that make up the various tributaries. With this watershed being in the shadow of the Upper San Juan & Rio Grande River, it does not see a lot of traffic. It might be one of the best watersheds in Colorado for both size of fish and lack of pressure. Maybe thats why the fish get so dang big??
