En 2013, la France comptait 12,5 millions de bénévoles œuvrant pour au moins une association. L’Ifop évalue à 20 millions le nombre de ceux qui « donnent du temps gratuitement aux autres ou pour contribuer à une cause », soit 40 % des Français de plus de 15 ans. Alors que ce nombre progresse d’année en année, on peut penser que le point commun entre ces personnes est l’envie d’améliorer leur environnement et le quotidien des autres. Fruit de plus d’un an de travail de la part de l’association Betavita, Bénévoles est un documentaire sur ceux qui incarnent AFS Vivre Sans Frontière – France au quotidien. AFS VSF n’existe que grâce à l’engagement désintéressé de 750 bénévoles actifs en France – 45 000 au total dans les 110 pays couverts par AFS ! Héritiers des ambulanciers volontaires de la Première Guerre mondiale, les bénévoles actuels sont fidèles à l’idéal de paix de leurs prédécesseurs, car c’est dans l’espoir de rapprocher les peuples qu’ont été créés les programmes d’échanges interculturels d’AFS. Ce sont ces bénévoles qui préparent aujourd’hui les jeunes candidats au départ, qui cherchent les familles d’accueil, qui aident les accueillis et leur nouvelle famille à mieux se comprendre si nécessaire, qui aident les rentrants à réintégrer leur culture d’origine… Cyril Bérard, le réalisateur, raconte avoir vu « des gens de 20 ans et d’autres de 60 qui partageaient les mêmes valeurs, qui réussissaient à communiquer, à s’entendre, à travailler ensemble, le tout dans un grand sentiment de paix, de passion et de partage ». While this number grows every year, we may think that the common trait between these persons is the desire to improve their environment and the daily life of others. Resulting from more than a year of work of the organization Betavita, Volunteers is a documentary about those embodying AFS France during their every-day life. AFS France exists only thanks to the selfless commitment of 750 active volunteers in France -45.000 in total for the 110 countries related to AFS! Heirs of the ambulance drivers volunteering during the First World War, the current volunteers have stayed true to the ideal of peace of their predecessors, because it is in the hope of bringing peoples together that the intercultural programs of AFS have been created. These volunteers are the ones who prepare today the students willing to go abroad, who search for host families, who help hosted students and their new families to understand each other if necessary, who help students coming back home to reinstate their original culture… Cyril Bérard, the movie maker, told that he saw “some people aged 20 and others of 60 years old sharing the same values, succeeding at communicating, to get along, to work together, all of this with a feeling of peace, passion and sharing”.
