March 1965. Central Park. William Fraser (71) sat alone playing a 1944 guitar he'd carried through WWII. His son James (20) died in his arms at Omaha Beach on D-Day — last words: "Play our song for Mom." His wife Catherine died in 1963: "Don't let us be forgotten." For 21 years, every Monday, William played their song on the same bench. The Beatles stopped, sat on the ground, and cried. Paul: "We want to record it, honor James and Catherine, make sure they're remembered." They set up equipment right there, played together, and 400 people gathered. Seven more WWII veterans stepped forward and saluted William. The recording was kept private and sacred. William died in 1968 (age 74) with Paul's card in his wallet. The Beatles performed at his funeral. Headstone: "He kept his promise. Now he's remembered too." Disclaimer: This story reflects The Beatles' documented compassion and their commitment to helping people in need.
