This is a feature length documentary I made for Channel 4 about the case of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe. It's a cross between a love story and a thriller: a deeply personal and intimate depiction of the reality of an ordinary family caught up in a nightmarish hostage situation, where powerful forces lurk in the shadows -- and even the government of your own country cannot be trusted Nazanin visited Iran in 2016 to show her parents her new baby daughter Gabriella. As they were returning home, Nazanin was arrested at Tehran airport, separated from her child and sentenced to five years for espionage. Back in London her husband Richard started a relentless campaign to get her freed and investigate why she'd been arrested in the first place. What he discovers takes him into direct conflict with the deep states of two powerful governments, because it turns out Nazanin has been taken hostage by Iran's notorious Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps in lieu of payment for a massive military debt for Chieftain tanks, dating back to the time of the Shah of Iran. But the British government deny the debt, then deny there is any connection between it and Nazanin's case. And if that wasn't bad enough, Boris Johnson gets involved and makes everything worse than ever. So will they ever Free Nazanin?
