Achieved date: November 6th 2004 Original submitted time: 20:56 (old timing method) Featured on The History of Super Mario 64 16 Star World Records by Summoning Salt    • The History of Super Mario 64 16 Star Worl...   A SM64 comeback by me is on the way, already started to practise for a 120 star run on twitch.tv/illudude (last time was a 2013 brief return) so I thought it would be fitting to upload this former WR run of mine, at the time when I got this SM64 speedrunning was in it's infancy, people were still getting BOB stars like the one from Bob Omb and Koopa. So I immediately saw that there were alot faster stars to get and beat the WR at the time by several minutes. Back then people were mostly just going for records in the minigames like Peach Slide and Koopa races so I mostly had to plan the route and come up with the fastest movement by myself. For those who don't know I was mainly a Goldeneye and Perfect Dark speedrunner but took a break from that game because of this amazing discovery that year in 2004 by Dom Dunc that made it possible to beat SM64 with just 16 stars. My Original comment when submitted to Speed Demos Archive in 2004: A guy named Dom Dunc discovered these glitches that makes it possible to beat Super Mario 64 with only 16 stars, when I first heard of this about six months ago I immediately became interested in trying it out. I read and watched a few videos to see how it's done, I tried lots of different strategies to find out the fastest possible way to do this. I thought of the strategy very carefully and took time to find out where I could win most time, eventually I felt that I was happy with my strategy and played it over and over again until I remembered exactly what to do and put together a very nice run. I like this way of just trying to do something the fastest way possible, even going beyond what the game designers intended, just playing the game as fast as possible using any means that you can with just your controller, your skill and see how fast you can go.
