Rita details the construction of a custom water feature built with fieldstone and a unique arbor fashioned from an old satellite dish. As the former owner of "The Hosta Shed," a business that sold thousands of plants annually, Rita highlights her massive collection of mature hostas, ranging from the giant "Chief Sitting Bull" to a heart-shaped bed of miniature "Mouse Ears" varieties. Beyond aesthetics, Rita offers practical gardening advice, discussing the unpredictable colors of Minnesota mums, the necessity of deer repellent, and the critical importance of disinfecting tools to prevent the spread of Hosta Virus X. Prairie Yard & Garden airs weekly on Pioneer PBS at 7:30 p.m. CST on Thursday evenings and subsequent episodes of PY&G rebroadcast Saturdays at 4 p.m. and Mondays at 1 p.m. following the initial air date on Pioneer PBS.
