In today’s episode, we explore the commonly used materials in ENT surgery, focusing on the ventilation tube or Grommet, used in a procedure called Myringotomy. We'll break down what it is, what it's made of, and when it's used. Previously, we discussed middle ear effusion (Otitis Media with Effusion), a condition where fluid accumulates behind the eardrum, affecting both adults and children. While most cases improve with medication, some patients require surgical intervention. In such cases, Myringotomy with Grommet insertion is performed to drain fluid and ventilate the ear. We’ll show you the Grommet, explain its material (PTFE), how it's placed in the eardrum, and precautions to take post-surgery, like avoiding water in the ear. You’ll also learn how this tiny device helps restore hearing and naturally exits the ear canal once its job is done. Be sure to watch our detailed procedure video on "Grommet Insertion" for more insights! 🔗 Link to the surgical procedure video: • Grommet Dr. Vivek Saindran | Surgery video...
