1000 Mille Miglia 2025 Has Arrived to Brescia, Italy 🏁 Mille Miglia – “The Most Beautiful Race in the World” The Mille Miglia (Italian for “Thousand Miles”) is a historic and prestigious endurance road race held in Italy. Known for its blend of motoring tradition, heritage, elegance, and scenic landscapes, it’s considered a rolling museum on wheels. ⸻ 📜 History at a Glance • First Held: 1927 • Founders: Giovanni Canestrini, Franco Mazzotti, Aymo Maggi, and Renzo Castagneto • Original Route: Brescia to Rome and back • Distance: 1,000 Roman miles (1,600 km or 1,000 modern miles) • Original Purpose: A reaction to Milan being chosen over Brescia for the Italian Grand Prix ⸻ 🏎️ The Original Race (1927–1957) • Format: A point-to-point race on public roads through Italy, with cars starting one at a time. • Vehicles: Open to production cars—many legendary marques took part, such as Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Maserati, Mercedes-Benz, and Porsche. • Fatalities: Due to high speeds on public roads, accidents were frequent. In 1957, a tragic crash killed driver Alfonso de Portago, his co-driver, and nine spectators. This ended the original competitive race. ⸻ 🔄 The Revival (Since 1977) Since 1977, Mille Miglia has returned as a historic car rally, not a speed race. It is now: • Regularity Race: Drivers must maintain average speeds and time accuracy. • Eligible Cars: Only models that participated in the original races (1927–1957) can compete. • Modern Route: Starts and ends in Brescia, passing through Rome, covering iconic Italian towns and landscapes.
