Azerbaijan, the crossroads of Europe and Asia, is a land of fascinating contrasts. Its capital, Baku, is a reflection of this duality: modern skyscrapers coexist with the Old City, a World Heritage Site that will transport you back to medieval times. This country, rich in oil and gas, has grown rapidly in recent decades, providing Baku with modern and futuristic architecture, in contrast to the natural landscapes and ancient traditions of its interior. The swaying anatomies abound. All around us, the streets of Baku are a true feast for the eyes Azeri culture is a vibrant mix of Turkish, Persian and Russian influences, which is reflected in its customs, cuisine and celebrations. In Azerbaijan, Novruz, the Persian New Year festival, is celebrated, marking the arrival of spring with dances, traditional foods and rituals of cleansing and renewal. The cuisine, rich in spices and flavours, includes dishes such as plov (rice with meat and spices) and lamb kebabs. One of the most impressive aspects of Azerbaijan is its unique geography. It is known as “The Land of Fire” because of its famous natural flames, such as those on Yanar Dag Mountain, where natural gas burns on the surface, creating an unusual and mystical spectacle. Another of Azerbaijan’s great attractions is exploring Gobustan National Park, famous for its prehistoric petroglyphs and mud volcanoes, a rare geological phenomenon in the world. Azerbaijan is also a country of hospitable people who are proud of their history and traditions. Although the majority of the population is Muslim, the society is diverse and generally open, with a significant influence from the Soviet era on their way of life and thinking. With its mix of ancient traditions, natural wonders and modernity, Azerbaijan offers a unique experience for those looking to discover a country off the beaten track. A country of 10 million people, Azerbaijan is a unique tourist destination for its influences and heritage. Baku, its capital, is one of its greatest attractions, a city where the modern and the ancient coexist harmoniously. In the historic centre, Icherisheher, you can explore cobbled streets, mosques and the famous Maiden Tower, while in the modern area the imposing Flame Towers and the iconic Heydar Aliyev Centre, designed by Zaha Hadid, a showpiece of architecture with its fluid and futuristic form, await you. Azerbaijan's nature is also impressive and diverse. In Gobustan, near Baku, you can find ancient petroglyphs and volcanic mud formations, a rare geological phenomenon. Yanar Dag, the "Burning Mountain," is another natural curiosity where natural gas erupts from the earth and burns continuously, creating a fascinating spectacle. Although for our channel we do not visit specific sites and instead we let ourselves be carried away by surprise, Azerbaijani culture and gastronomy are captivating us. The city of Baku is much more walkable and suggestive than we expected. Traditions such as Azerbaijani tea, served in small crystal glasses and accompanied by local sweets and the festive atmosphere are worth highlighting. The country celebrates music festivals and cultural events throughout the year as we will see in some of the videos in this series, including the Baku Jazz Festival, which attracts musicians and visitors from around the world. Azerbaijan also offers unique experiences related to its history and spirituality. In each of its corners you can feel the presence of faith and do not be surprised to find religious buildings of surprising beauty. Azerbaijan is not often among the most sought-after destinations, but we assure you that coming here will not disappoint you. Overall, Azerbaijan is an ideal destination for those seeking history, culture and unknown but unforgettable landscapes. #openyourwindowtotheworld #TravelingIsHyperliving 🌎 Subtitles in Portuguese, Italian, German, French, Russian and English. 🔎 I am Gustavo Llusá, Argentine, after traveling for several years through more than 75 countries I settled in Latvia where I married Dace and learned to know another way of life, on the other side of the map.
