All You Need to Know About the Gen-Y Hitch Gooseneck Trailer Hitch for Ford OEM Puck Systems

Hey, guys. It's Jake here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at the Gen Y Gooseneck Hitch for Ford OEM Puck Systems. This gooseneck hitch is gonna allow you to be able to pull gooseneck trailers, or if you have a gooseneck conversion on your fifth wheel, it'll gonna allow you to pull those too. The biggest difference in this, and then, say, maybe the either the Reese Kit, the CURT Kit, or the BMW Gooseneck Kit that is also designed to fit the Ford OEM puck system. This is going to have a five inch offset. So our original puck is right here in the center of our four pucks. This is going to kick it back five inches. Now, what this is gonna help with is, if you have that gooseneck conversion on your fifth wheel trailer, it's gonna help to get that nose of your trailer a little bit further away from your cab of your truck, giving you a better turning radius. Now, this kit is gonna come with your standard two and five 16ths gooseneck ball. That's pretty standard throughout the market. You don't really see very many varying from that size, because they are so common. It will have a 6,000 pound vertical load limit. That is the pressure pushing down on top of the ball itself. And then it's also going to have a 25,000 pound max gross trailer weight rating. That is the trailer, plus the load included. Now, what you want to keep in mind, is you want to compare that to the numbers that you get with your truck. All the weight capacities that come with your truck. You want to check those out, and make sure that you're not exceeding what the vehicle's designed to handle. Now, if you look at this wing shape piece, you might be wondering what that's for. Because of our gooseneck hole being round, we wouldn't have any way to keep this offset from spinning around while you're towing a trailer. So they give you this wing piece. It's gonna have two pegs that fit in your front puck system pockets, so that the whole unit itself is locked into place and it doesn't spin. The back two are going to be for your safety chain loops, which you can just buy the safety chain loops. You will need to hook up your safety chain loops, when you're towing a gooseneck trailer. How this is gonna work is, it is just going to drop right into place into your puck system, but it's gonna lock it into place with this pin here. You'll take your snapper pin off, and then come to either side. Ours is a little bit tighter tolerance, because of our rubber bed mat in here. But you'll lift it up. It's a very, very tight spring. Twist it to the side. And then when you're ready to remove it, simply pull it right out. You can see there, this is the round design we're talking about, which you probably already know if you have the puck system. But then when it comes time to put it in place, you set it down, make sure your pins are lined up on the end, twist it back, and it should lock into place. See this, it's not engaged all the way, so you wanna push down on this pin, lock it in, and then put your snapper pin back. Now, the whole kit's gonna have a very durable powder coat finish. Back here on the back, you'll see it's gonna be a matte black, and then on the front it's gonna be kind of a matte silver. I really like the differentiating colors, because then you know which part is which. It doesn't all kind of blend together. That way, if you need to replace one part of the other, it'll help you get that part a little bit easier. Now, when it comes to the gooseneck ball, before you hook up to your trailer, I highly recommend putting some grease on here, so that it'll help keep the finish, first of all, but then also help it make it a little bit smoother and hopefully a little bit quieter when you're making those turns or headed down the road. Another thing we noticed that's really gonna help with this being a silver color instead of black is that if you have a spray-in bedliner, typically they're gonna be black in color. Or if you have a drop in like we have here, this silver ball is gonna stick out way more on that than if you had either a gold ball, if it's got a coating or something like that on it. The chrome balls, I really don't care for the finish, because it's almost as if you've hooked up the first time that that chrome finish is gone. So I think this finish is gonna last for a really long time. Well, guys, all in all, I think this is gonna be a great kit. With that five inch offset, you're gonna get hopefully a little bit more space so that you can make a litt
