🎉Over 175 K-12 students, along with parents, caregivers, and volunteers, engaged with us at STEM Mobile's FREE STEM Saturday event focusing on LEVEES on September 16th! Students spanning grades K to 12 had the opportunity to immerse themselves in culturally and environmentally relevant lessons about natural hazards like flooding and coastal erosion, as well as the mechanics of pumps and levees. The event took place at B.C. Rain High School, located at 3125 Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile, and was powered by City of Mobile: Parks & Recreation. 🏗️Throughout the event, students were tasked with the challenge of designing, constructing, and safeguarding their own mini-cities against the threats of flooding and storm surges. As they engaged in these activities, participants learned about the pivotal role that STEM fields play in communities that are in water-surrounded urban areas. The day progressed to a final activity where teams competed to build the most effective levee system for a cash prize! 👏 Over 30 volunteers brought their expertise and passion while joining us in providing meaningful support for STEM education in the community. Thank you!! ✨ #YOUbelonginSTEM #STEMforALL #STEMeducation STEM Learning Ecosystems STEM Gulf Coast
