In today’s episode, I review one of my favorite always-on lenses: the vintage 50mm Leica Summicron type 4 produced from 1979-1994. I recently got a chance to spend several weeks in the Princeton area with easy access to New York, Philadelphia and other interesting places. I debated which camera to bring for a review but quickly settled on my Leica M6 with my favorite 50mm Summicron. I bought this lens for my 30th birthday and have been using it for almost eight years now. In this period, I got to know it pretty well and believe it is about time to review it properly. Why should you care? If you would walk into a store today to purchase a non-APO 50mm Summicron, you would get a lens with the exact same optical design as this one from 1979.
