Am Süd- und Osthang dieses Berges leuchten die Dächer der gleichnamigen Stadt Staufenberg. Die Anlage besteht aus einer Oberburg aus dem 13.und einer Unterburg aus dem 16 Jahrhundert. Die ältere Oberburg ist heute nur noch ruinös erhalten und weist zahlreiche Gebäuderuinen und Grundmauern auf. Die Überreste sind teilweise aber noch recht eindrucksvoll. Die Unterburg von 1517 ist zur Stadt hingerichtet und beherbergt heute ein Hotel mit Gastronomie. Die Gestalt und die Lage des Berges forderte geradezu im Mittelalter den Bau einer Burg heraus, von der man das ganze Lahntal überblicken und absperren konnte. So erweist auch die Anlage der Burg Staufenberg das feine strategische Gefühl jener Zeit. Leider ist auch diese Burg während der Hessenkriege Mitte des 17.Jahrhunderts weitgehend zerstört worden. Seit 2002 setzt sich aber ein Heimatverein für die Belange und die Erhaltung der Oberburg ein. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ In a striking location, at the confluence of the Lahn and Lumda, Staufenberg Castle sits enthroned on a basalt cone covered with trees, bushes and flowers.
