North Saskatchewan Canoe Expedition 2021 - Lorianne Coursol

This film is based on a 2021 Ecotourism Outdoor Leadership Expedition I, which was paddling down the North Saskatchewan River from Nordegg to Rocky Mountain House. Throughout the week we were able to capture the beauty and elegance of the river and its surrounding terrain. Learning to navigate and paddle down a moving river came with its challenges as we had to learn to recognize the hazards such as sweepers, strainers, islands, rocks, sandbars etc. We learned how to paddle class II water, maneuvering through rapids, not always smoothly I might add. There were several times that we ended up in the river instead of on the river. The week was an amazing experiential learning experience, giving us the chance to grow individually and as a team. We all came away from this experience with new camping and paddling skills and great memories of those big water swims.
