Segmented Woodturning Spiral Illusion | Mixed Hardwoods on the Lathe

Welcome back to the Mayuko Woodturning channel. This video showcases the segmented woodturning process with a spiral design that creates a unique and dynamic visual illusion. Each piece of wood is precisely arranged to create a curved shape that appears to "flow" when turned on the lathe. This piece is made from a combination of several wood species: spruce, rosewood, merbau, teak, jackfruit, and ironwood, which provide a natural color contrast and varying grain characteristics. For this project, it was my first time trying white spruce. Visually, the color is quite attractive, but during processing, it turned out to be too brittle, resulting in a less smooth finish. Compared to maple, spruce doesn't provide the same surface quality and is more difficult to achieve a truly neat finish. This video is presented without music and without narration, just the natural sounds of the machine and the process, for a calming viewing experience that focuses on the details. Thanks for watching.
