🌊 Celebrate World Ocean Week with California State Parks by inviting your students to engage their hands, heart, and mind! Join State Parks Interpreter Kat at MacKerricher State Beach for a fun craft and story time for grades 1-4. During this lesson, students will first learn how to make folded-paper whales using paper, scissors, and drawing materials. After a short tutorial, students will continue to decorate their unique World Ocean Week craft while listening to a live reading of the story “The Snail and the Whale” by Julia Donaldson. During this program, students will be asked to think, “Why do we celebrate our ocean?” and “What can we do to help our ocean?” Participating students will need the following materials on hand before the program starts: 2 sheets of paper (plain or color paper, size does not matter) Scissors Decorating/drawing materials (markers, crayons, or color pencils) Visit our website http://www.ports-ca.us to learn more about California State Parks' PORTS Home Learning Programs.
