Raw footage from classic sessions with ANDY ROY & OMAR HASSAN, 1992 skating STREET, DERBY AND THE CANNERY, SANTA CRUZ, CA Andy Roy and Omar Hassan skating Santa Cruz, CA in 1992, filmed by Tony Roberts. Santa Cruz skateboards built the skatepark at the cannery for a spot that team riders and friends could practice and learn tricks and for employees to skate on their breaks. It was small with tight transitions but that just added to the challenge and fun factor. How many tricks can one link together? How can one make a fluid line out of a spot that does not properly connect? These were the questions one would ask when slapping their tail down and dropping in. In the early 90's skateboarding was entering a super tech phase and pants got big and wheels got small. Thrasher and Transworld Skateboarding started running frame grab sequences because the tricks were so tech they needed more frames to capture the details of the trick. Rider-owned companies like Blind, World, Girl, H-Street, 101 joined the ranks of bigger brands like Powell Peralta, Vision and Santa Cruz in the skateboarding market. Street skaters took over the industry and changed the trajectory of the sport forever, taking moves from freestyle and adapting them to the street, mini ramps and vert.
