Passenger Collected Driver’s Car and Disappeared, After Abuja–Kogi Trip

A commercial driver has brought a complaint over the alleged theft of his car following a trip from Abuja to Kogi State. According to the driver, he met a man in Abuja who negotiated with him for a trip to Kogi State. He described the man as friendly and respectful, adding that the passenger even bought fuel for the journey. On arrival in Kogi State, the man allegedly told the driver that his boss does not accept unexpected visitors and asked the driver to hand over the car, promising to return shortly. After handing over the car, the driver said he never saw the man again, later discovering that the compound had another exit at the back, which the man allegedly used to escape. The driver further alleged that he paid ₦500,000 to the police for tracking efforts, but the attempt was unsuccessful. Months later, on the advice of friends, he posted the story on social media. Coincidentally, someone reached out, claiming that the same man had come to their company in Lagos seeking employment. According to them, after resuming work, the man allegedly ran away with the company, and was later arrested and placed in custody. The driver rushed to Lagos, facilitated the transfer of the case to Kogi State, and said the suspect confessed, naming the person he sold the car to. The police reportedly arrested the buyer as well. However, the driver said he later received a call about a family emergency, and when he returned, he discovered that the police had released the suspect. The Ordinary President escalated the matter by calling the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State, who promised to investigate the case. This incident happened in 2024, and till date, the driver says there is no car and no suspect.
