In these animation, I created multiple plots of San Diego high and low tide data for November 6th, 2025 and November 11th, 2025. November 6th had King Tides, which are extreme high and low tide levels. I compared the levels on November 6th to levels on November 11th, a day with normal tides. Each plot shows tidal level in feet on the y-axis and time is PST on the x-axis. Additionally, each plot contains one full day of data, from 12:00 am to 11:59 pm. I obtained the high and low tide values from tide predictions published by NOAA. The values in-between the high and low tides were generated using a cubic spline interpolation model. My final animation plots the data for both days to show the contrast in the high and low tide levels, emphasizing the impact that a King Tide event has on high and low tides. This animation was created for the EPS 109 course "Computer simulations with Jupyter notebooks" at the University of California, Berkeley: https://militzer.berkeley.edu/EPS109. It offers a general introduction to computer simulations for all science majors. Participants will use the Jupyter notebooks to perform calculations, design 3D graphics, and build on existing computer programs. No prior programming experience is required. The course teaches fundamental skills for scientists and helps students with future homework. It covers data processing techniques as well standard simulations methods including Monte Carlo and molecular dynamics. The algorithms are illustrated with a variety of applications in earth and planetary science as well as astronomy.
