Our second day on the South West Coast Path started in Porlock after a good night rest. The route goes along the edge of Porlock Marsh and along the shingle bank to Porlock Weir. The path now goes out to Gore Point before entering the woods that you walk in until only a few miles before Lynmouth. Another route change sees you descend to Home Farm before climbing back up again, for no good reason that we could see. Unfortunately after about 10 miles Linda started to list to port. For some reason she developed a lean to the left that we were unable to sort out, and eventually I had to take her pack for the last three mile or so. Not understanding what the problem was, and knowing that day 3 was long and hard we decided the safest thing to do was bail. We took a taxi to Minehead and stayed in a hotel for the night before going home. By the next morning Linda was fine again, but the decision was made. We're still not sure about why it happened but maybe it was a symptom of dehydration and lack of energy although there were none of the usual symptoms. We'll be back though, later in the year, better prepared and more careful of our health.
