PACIFIC OCEAN (June 22, 2018) The Independence-variant littoral combat ship USS Montgomery (LCS 8) conducts an underway replenishment (UNREP) with the Military Sealift Command fleet replenishment ship USNS Yukon (T-AO-202). LCS is a high-speed, agile, shallow draft, mission-focused surface combatant designed for operations in the littoral environment, yet fully capable of open ocean operations. As part of the surface fleet, LCS has the ability to counter and outpace evolving threats independently or within a network of surface combatants. The trial United Vision 2018 (UV 18) began on 11 June and is being held for two weeks across NATO territories in Europe and North America. During the trial, participants from 17 NATO nations as well as from the partner countries Finland and Sweden have the opportunity to connect multinational and collective Joint Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance capabilities. Operating a mixture of aerial, ground, and maritime Surveillance and Reconnaissance platforms and sensors, the trial gathers around 1250 participants in Europe and North America, putting into practice lessons learned by NATO nations during the last decade of operating together. As part of the exercise, aerial assets are being tested at Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona, U.S. Footage includes shots of Tethered Aerostat Radar System (Aerostat) being launched and operated from the Tactical Operations Center (TOC), shots of Black Hawk helicopter, and an interview with Quang Ho, Aerostat systems senior engineer.
