Editor’s Note: This interview contains major spoilers for Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Season 1, Episode 5, “Series Acclimation Mil.” Star Trek’s 60-year history has been filled with many high points, and the latest episode of Starfleet Academy is worthy of a place among the best. “Series Acclimation Mil” is a wholly unique episode which sees Kerrice Brooks’ holographic character SAM break the fourth wall and embark on a beautiful journey to solve the mystery of Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks). An homage to Deep Space Nine and its magnificent captain, the episode features a touching appearance from Cirroc Lofton, multihyphenate Trek talent Tawny Newsome as the latest Dax, and a breathtaking final voiceover from Avery Brooks himself. I recently had the chance to speak to Kerrice Brooks, and her co-stars George Hawkins and Sandro Rosta, about this episode. During our conversation, Brooks spoke about getting to share the screen with Lofton and about what an honor it was to dive into the history of Sisko and Avery Brooks. Hawkins spoke about introducing a whole new alien race to Star Trek canon and Darem’s intense relationships with everyone around him. Finally, Rosta spoke about Caleb and Tarima pursuing their magnetic connection and teased what to expect from the return of Tatiana Maslany’s Anisha.
